The gorgeous blonde with me on the right is my late sister, Kira Nicole. She passed away in April of 2009, about 5 days after this picture was taken, from sudden cardiac arrest. Autopsy revealed that it was caused by a lethal side effect from a generic prescription of the drug Darvocet, which the manufacturer has since taken off of the market for causing hundreds of deaths. She was only taking it for pain relief from a torn ACL, which she was supposed to have surgery on in the following weeks. If we had known of this potentially fatal side effect, we never would have allowed her to take this drug because of a pre-existing heart problem.
What you might not know is that generic drugs make up 80% of all prescriptions filled in the United States. But generic drug manufacturers cannot independently update their labels to warn of new side-effects and cannot be held accountable if their drugs injure or kill Americans.
Both brand name and generic manufacturers should be accountable for the safety of their products. If no one is accountable, no one is safe.
Please SIGN THIS PETITION to tell the FDA to act now to restore accountability because safety is an issue that cannot wait.
Thank you for your time.
